May 2—Solutions North Bank donated $5,000.00 to the Stockton Recreation Center for a new baseball scoreboard and ball field improvements. Jody Giovannini was injured in a freak mowing accident. Dean Kester was celebrating his 45th birthday.

May 9—Twelve seniors and foreign exchange student Felipe Ferraz Derrico were set to walk across the stage at the 2019 SHS Graduation. The third Annual Peony Festival was set for Saturday, May 18th. Mary Jo Cordelia Plante, 29, was charged with Unlawful Distribution of Marijuana. Brooks Alexander was born on March 31st to parents Kurt and Megan Engle. The 2019-2020 Stockton Junior High cheerleaders were Ruthie Voss, Julianna Coleman, Ava Dix, Claire Plumer, Lucie Voss, Shyanne Balthazor, Ella Snyder and Bodye Stithem.

May 16—Joan Balderston was this year’s Peony Festival Parade Grand Marshal. Vena S. Kleinschmidt and Francis “Henry” Kern passed away. The golf team of Ben Rogers, Gage Conyac, Brady Beougher, Quinn Coffey, Zeb Cole, Isaac Reed and coach Rick Bice had qualified for the KSHSAA 1A Boys State Golf Tournament. Dennis and Marilyn Dryden were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Emma Bedore and Katy Kriley were the SHS co-Valedictorians and Brady Beougher was the Salutatorian.

May 23—Rustin Odle was injured when a bull flipped the 4-wheeler he was riding. The FFA Entomology Team of Kaden Kriley, Nathan Thomas, Trevor Miller and Nate Billinger won the State title. Tatum Hamilton had qualified for State in the 100 M Dash. Gerald “Jerry” Bretz passed away. Addie Struckhoff and Cameron Lindsey were announced as the Citizenship Award recipients, and Cappi Hoeting and Delanee Bedore were the Anita Gale Simons award winners at the Stockton eighth-grade promotion. Emma Bedore was selected to attend the 36th annual Governor’s Scholars Award Program. Mayor Kim Thomas received the Kansas Municipal Utilities Diehl Award. Ken Schilowsky was celebrating his 80th birthday.

May 30—Three small earthquakes had been reported west of Zurich on Wednesday, May 22nd. David A. Walker passed away. Setting new Stockton Junior High track records were Breckyn Williams in the 100 Hurdles with a time of 19.76 and the 200 Hurdles with a time of 37.24; Jonathan Hamel in the Triple Jump with a distance of 35’9.5”; Justin Knoll in the 200 Hurdles with a time of 33.87; Kaelyn Means in Discus at a distance of 111’3”; and the 4x200 relay of Emma Yakish, Claire Plumer, Breckyn Williams and Ava Dix at a time of 2.03.32. Liv Marlo LeSage was born on May 10th to parents Tyson and Diaira LeSage of Hays.

June 6—Plainville Livestock Commission owners Tyler and Camden Gillum were charged with 31 counts of bank fraud in a check kiting scheme. Dan Atkisson had attended the Market Facilitation Program announcement in Washington, D. C. Stockton’s Paige Hrabe had witnessed the Jefferson City, Mo. tornado firsthand. Candidates filing for the four Stockton USD 271 School Board positions were Barbara J. Ard, Mark Billinger, Stephanie L. Niblock and Aftan Lambert Tso. Candidates filing for the two open Stockton City Commission positions were Bob Becker, Nathan Glendening, Leo Inglsbee and Kim Thomas. The School Board accepted the resignation of teacher Kelli Wright and offered a kindergarten contract to Anne Williams. Earlyne Ann (Cooper) Hearld and Edwin (Eddie) Dreher passed away. Kyleigh Stice had won the individual State Bowling Title. Tonia Werner was the June RCH Employee of the Month.

June 13—Five Rooks County men, John R. Bennett, Francis R. Everett, David L. Seales, Dustin J. Higdon and Dustin M. Foerster, had been arrested and subsequently charged with drug distribution crimes. Roy and Cheryl Forssberg were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Leroy Winfield “Pete” Scott Jr. and Sheila Beougher passed away. Brianna Pulec (Twig & Vine) and Emma Bedore (Stockton Recreation Center) were featured in the Nex-Generation Student Internship Program.

June 20—The 2019 tax valuations showed a gain of over $3 million. Steven Leslie Talbott had passed away. Presented with Quilts of Valor were Mr. Ellwood Course Jr. (Marine) and Dr. Morris Talbert (Army). While gathering eggs, Norma Braun had found a huge chicken egg that measured 6 ¾ inches around. The new Rehabilitation Center for the Rooks County Health Center was looking at a September completion date.

June 27—The region was awakened by an earthquake (M5.4) early Saturday morning, June 22nd. The Rooks County unemployment rate had spiked to nearly 5% in May. Several Rooks County organizations had been awarded Heartland Community Foundation grants. Webster Lake was under a Blue-Green Algae watch. Case A. Bonebrake, Ginger Rose Adams and Ralph E. Vohs passed away. The Tiger Sharks made a strong showing at their home meet with several capturing first in their events. Justin Knoll and Claire Plumer were both undefeated in their three individual events, (100 Freestyle, 50 Backstroke and 50 Short Free).
