Dear Editor:

As one of, if not the largest employer in Rooks County, everyone should always be interested in the annual meeting and election of the Board of Trustees of RCHC. However, since 2005, the elections have been uncontested and attendance at the annual meeting has been 'spotty' at best. This year two board terms are expiring. Seven candidates have applied for these two positions including two current board members. The candidates have filled out questionnaires and I would encourage you to read through them, consider your options, and take time to vote at the annual meeting at the hospital on Friday, May 3 starting at 5:30 p.m. - 6 p.m.

Participation is always encouraged, as my Dad always taught us, and I love that young people are 'stepping up'. However, I want to recognize the two current board members whose terms are being voted on. Each have brought their own expertise and knowledge to the table for an extended period of time when no one else wanted to participate. The majority of this Board is the reason that Rooks County has a state of the art facility, quality patient outcomes, and it's current outstanding staff.

I was honored to serve with the most of the current board as a member for ten years and I hope that you will keep in mind their loyalty and sacrifice. It's an unpaid, volunteer position without any individual accolades but is a county wide benefit to the citizens Rooks County. In my time on the board, it was the least political entity I have ever seen. Every decision was for the benefit of the patients, the employees, and the county.

Over 80% of the county voted to build the hospital, and its success has proven the voters were right. So turn out and vote again, and let's keep the momentum going! Positive attitudes and teamwork got the hospital built, and positive attitudes and teamwork will keep it successful.
