Martha V. Nuckolls

Martha V. Nuckolls, 92, Burdett, passed away on January 27, 2024, at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned.

She was born July 22, 1931, in Burdett, the daughter of Kenneth and Lena Blackwell Friend.

A lifetime area resident, she was a secretary and farmwife. She was a member of the Burdett United Methodist Women, Burdett United Methodist Church, where she played the piano, was the choir director, and was a past church board member. Martha was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #280, Sweet Adelines, and was a past school board member for USD 496.

She gave much of her time to the community, including playing the piano for various occasions, school contests, and community events. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandma, and great-grandma.

 She married Donald Nuckolls in Burdett on December 31, 1950. He survives.

Other survivors include three sons, Steve Nuckolls, Larned, and Craig Nuckolls, and David Nuckolls, both of Burdett; sister, Joyce Darnell, Sun City West, Ariz.; brother, Larry Friend, Plainville; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Kathy Tanner, and brother, Kenneth Friend.

Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service may be announced at a later date.
