Northup and Hahn qualify for State

Carolina Northup and Ashlyn Hahn have once again punched their tickets to the 4-1A State Wrestling Tournament following their first-place finishes at the 4-3-2-1A Regional D Tournament held in Scott City last Saturday. The state tourney will be held at the Salina- Tony’s Pizza Events Center in Salina on February 22-24.

Northup, who wrestles at 100 lbs., will take a 29-7 record to the state tournament, while Hahn, wrestling at 125 lbs., enters State with a 33-3 record. Both girls made the trip last year, with Hahn earning a fourth-place medal at 120, and Northup finishing

fifth at 100.

After receiving a bye in the first round at Regionals, Northup, a sophomore, won her next two matches with falls over Reagan Milne (9-16) of St. Francis, and Kaeleigh Klein (24-15) of Plainville, and then captured the championship with a 5-1 decision over Aspen Sharpe (33-5) of Colby.

Hahn, a junior, recorded falls in her first three matches, defeating Madaline Kolas (13-26) of Hoisington, Taryn Bieker (23-15) of Plainville, and Reese Watkins (32-13) of Larned, before pinning Josie Bell (35-10) of Hoxie to stand atop the podium.

Junior Rivver Long, who was a state qualifier last year at 190 lbs., fell short this season and finished with a record of 15-11. Also wrestling at Regionals, but not placing were: Mia Odle (115), Temprance Northup (120), Shyanne Balthazor (130), Shae Yohon (155).
