Kaleb Mateo Inchaustegui received the honors of being the first baby to be born at Rooks County Health Center in 2006. He arrived March 17 to parents Susan and Shawn Inchaustegui of Webster. They were praying for the baby to come in perfect timing and for an easy delivery with no complications. Well, the baby was born on Saint Patrick’s Day, and they were back home with Kaleb before the snowstorm started.

Snow started to fall on Monday morning, March 20, and it showed no signs of letting up throughout the day. The school extended Spring Break by one day due to the storm. The kids took advantage of their extra day by enjoying some great sledding and snowman-building.

The Stockton EMS crew was called to a two-vehicle accident during the snowstorm on Monday afternoon, March 20th, when a collision occurred at the intersection of N. Spruce and N. Second Streets. Douglas Stejskal, 35, of Stockton was traveling east on N. Second and failed to stop at the stop sign and was struck by a 1994 Ford pickup driven northbound by Timothy J. Horn, 24, also of Stockton. Stejskal was transported by ambulance to Rooks County Health Center.

Madison and MaKayla Reed, with help from their little brother, Isaac, fashioned a KSU “Snowcat” Monday during the snowstorm.

All six members of the Stockton Wrestling Club who participated in the District Wrestling Tournament in Goodland qualified for the State Tour-nament to be held in Topeka. Doug Bigge of Plainville and Brian Johnston of Grinnell placed in the Top 10 in the Men’s Doubles bowling competition at the 35th Annual Oil Capital Open held in Tulsa, bringing home a $500 cash prize.

At the Third Annual Greater Tulsa Open Bowling Tournament, a five-member team called the Western Kansas Boys, which included Joey Bellerive, Delwin LaRue and Tom Ketelsen of Stockton, Doug Bigge of Plainville, and Sherm Jones of Bogue, placed 39th and captured prize money in the amount of $55.

The scorer’s table at the Senior/Faculty basketball game included Barbara Poore, scorebook; Larry Poore, announcer, and Joe Weidenhaft, timer/scorekeeper. The event was held on March 14 and sponsored by the Tiger Booster Club.

Showing at the Nova Theatre was “The Shaggy Dog;’ starring Tim Allen.

And So They Say Donna Hamilton: “We’ve had a lot of different animals come to our house, but I have to say, I was surprised to see a beaver standing in front of our sliding doors, looking for some water Saturday nightf

Obituaries were published for Wanda Demuth (1922-2006) and Cleon Carl Dettmer (1908-2006).

Looking Back 14 Years Ago, Spotlighting the Year... 1992 — After being in business for eight years, Elton and Mrcella Smith had sold Smith Monuments to Ron and Gail Gallaway of Hillsboro, Ore.

56 Years Ago, Spotlighting the Year... 1950 — Walter, the three-yearold son of Mr. and Mrs. George Eades, had a very sore hand and arm as a result of an unusual accident. Wally had been playing by his father’s greyhound pen and one of the dogs, in a playful mood, began chewing on Wally’s coat sleeve and evidently pulled his arm through the wire fence. When Wally tried to extricate himself from the fence he did more damage to his hand and arm with a number of long and deep wire cuts which necessitated the administration of an anesthetic while the stitches were taken.

What Stocktonites Were Doing 98 Years Ago, Spotlighting the Year... 1908 — H. Dandurant of Providence, Rhode Island, is out visiting his uncle, George Dandurant of Damar. He is more than pleased with the country but was somewhat disappointed at not seeing an abundance of buffalo, antelope and Indians and other wild things. We hope that he will be so fascinated with the area that he will return in the near future and relocate in our town.

The “Yesteryear” photo featured John “Jack” Stewart, one of the first settlers in Rooks County, who homesteaded south of the river in 1872.
