Glade resident Dale D. Bretton passed away September 16, 2023, at his home in Glade at the age of 88.  

He was born July 9, 1935, in Phillips County, Kansas, the son of Hugh and Edna (LaRue) Bretton. He was premature, weighing only two lbs. He grew up in Phillips County, where he attended school through the 8th grade.

Dale married his first wife, Edna Mae, and to this union, four daughters, Doris, Darlene, Dorothy, and Dixie, were born.

He worked for Rooks County doing dirtwork construction. He later moved to Minneapolis, Kansas. After returning back to Phillips County, Dale took over the family farm.

On Sept. 28, 1979, Dale was united in marriage to Joyce Goracke, and to this union, three children were born, Katie, Patrick, and Joseph.

Dale participated in horse shows and bowling, winning several trophies. He also enjoyed coon hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother and sister; and his brother Dean.

Survivors include his wife Joyce of the home; his daughters Doris Wiley of Park City, Darlene Walker and husband John of Stockton, Dorothy Bretton and Al Plante of Plainville, Dixie Dibble and husband Bill of Woodston, and Katie Shellito and husband Roy of Logan; sons Patrick Bretton of Glade and Joseph Bretton of Beaver City, Neb.; his brother Darrell and wife Elaine of Kensington; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 21, at 10:30 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jay Brandon officiating. The service will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page. Burial will follow in the Plainview Cemetery, rural Phillips County.

Visitation will be from 9:00 to 5:00 Wednesday at the funeral home.
