Peyton Hardenburger, a junior at Wamego High School was recently named to MaxPreps’ “Best High School Softball Player in all 50 States” list as the top player for the state of Kansas. Selections to the MaxPreps list are based on high school achievements and talent on the field, Of course, Hardenburger checks each of those boxes.

Stockton High School wrestlers Carolina Northup and Ashlyn Hahn will be vying for a state title at the KSHSAA 4-1A Girls State Wrestling Tournament which will be held this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Salina-Tony’s Pizza Events Center in Salina.

The 3-2-1A Regional Wrestling Tournament in Norton looked to be a very tough one, featuring 36 ranked wrestlers and five ranked teams. The competition on Saturday lived up to its billing, and the Tiger boys were unable to earn a trip to the state tournament this weekend. The seasons of Cameron Balthazor (126), Emerson Lowry (144), Zach Young (190), and Ryan Mongeau (285) came to and end as none of them were able to place in the top four in their weight class.

The Stockton Lady Tigers defeated the visiting Plainville Lady Cardinals on Tuesday of last week, 47-23, to earn their 11th win of the season against five losses. Junior Bodye Stithem had the hot hand as she drained five treys en route to scoring a game-high 20 points for the Lady Tigers.

The Stockton Tigers hosted the Victoria Knights in basketball action last Thursday at Tiger Gymnasium. It was a rough night for the Tiger teams as they were swept by the visitors. The Lady Tigers were defeated 55-26, while the Stockton boys fell 72-23.

Stockton traveled to Osborne last Friday for the final basketball game of the regular season. Both the Lady Tigers and Tiger Boys fell to the Bulldogs, with the girls losing 66-28, and the boys, 76-29.

Carolina Northup and Ashlyn Hahn have once again punched their tickets to the 4-1A State Wrestling Tournament following their first-place finishes at the 4-3-2-1A Regional D Tournament held in Scott City last Saturday. The state tourney will be held at the Salina- Tony’s Pizza Events Center in Salina on February 22-24.

The Stockton Junior High Wrestlers competed in the Junior Panther Classic last Saturday in Phillipsburg. Aidyen Kerr pinned her way to a first-place finish at 145 lbs.
