Due to COVID-19, the annual Veterans Serving Vittles Soup Lunch at the Stockton VFW Post 8873 has been canceled for his year. The Auxiliary wants to remind you to get out and vote on Tuesday, November 3rd! And thank a veteran for this privilege; they have protected, and some even died, for this right! (Look for the ad in this week’s edition on Page 7A.).

It’s time to do your fall cleaning! A city-wide cleanup (city limits only) will be held during the week of November 2nd through 6th. Regular trash routes will be picked up as normally scheduled with additional city trucks following to pick up furniture, tree branches, appliances (Freon must be drained from refrigerators), yard waste, and tires (limit 5, anything over the five-tire limit will be charged landfill prices). Items the City CANNOT pick up are household hazardous waste (paint, insecticides, herbicides, etc), batteries, oil and oil containers, fuel and fuel containers, liquid waste and computers.

On average, families have less than three minutes from the time the first smoke alarm sounds to escape a fire. Working smoke alarms provide the early warning and critical extra seconds needed to escape and cut the risk of dying in home fire structures in half. When you set your clock back on November 1st, use the extra hour to make a life-saving change in your household—change and test the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors—and remind your friends, family and neighbors to do the same. Just a reminder that the last day to register to vote for the General Election is Tuesday, October 13th. Also, if you wish to receive an Advance Ballot through the mail instead of going to the poles, cut out and complete the application for Advance Ballot by Mail, which can be found on page 7 in this week’s issue.
